The message shared by Deadline shows that Mazin will create, write, executive produce, and showrun the TV adaptation. Other executive producers include Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, and Gabriel Marano of Hasbro Entertainment.

Unlike The Last of Us, which retold the stories of the game with a few modifications, the story of the upcoming TV series will start immediately after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3.

What motivated Mazin to take up Baldur’s Gate TV series project?

Just like The Last of Us, Mazin, who is a long-time Dungeons and Dragons fan, had a deep passion for Baldur’s Gate 3 and its characters, which inspired the decision to bring it to cinema screens. Mazin has previously completed the game on the challenging honor mode. He has been playing the D&D franchise weekly for the past 15 years.

“After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created,” said Mazin.

“I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”

Since the upcoming TV series is not tied to another Baldur’s Gate game, Mazin has the creative freedom to take the story in any direction. The upcoming series will feature characters from Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as new ones. Mazin hopes that some of the cast from the game’s third installment will join the series.
