Starting June 5, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who enjoy Nintendo 64 classics will have three exciting new features to play around with. One of them has been on the top list of fan requests.

The features that will be added to the platform include customizable controls, Rewind, and CRT filter. While customizable control is available to all Switch console users, only Switch 2 owners will be able to use the Rewind and CRT filter.

With the View/Change Controls feature, players can now see what each button does in different games. In addition to that, players can assign new roles to each button, which, in many ways, is a win for accessibility.

Change controls

To access this feature, pause the game during gameplay and scroll down to “View/Change Controls” options, then “Change Controls”. You will see what each button does and can remap each button to a new role. Save your new settings and head back to the game. When you are tired of your custom settings, you can also “Revert to Default Mapping”.

The Rewind feature allows players to rewind their game and correct an error they have made. For example, let’s say you hit a shot in golf and missed, you can rewind to before the shot and try again. It works by saving frames of your game as you play. So, what you are really doing is reloading a previous frame. This will save players the headache of starting the chapter all over again.

The CRT filter is more of a cosmetic feature that doesn’t have any real impact on gameplay. When turned on, players will relive the experience of playing their games on Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions, which existed during the era of the N64.

Nintendo 64 classics are available to Nintendo Switch owners subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, a service that costs $50 annually. The service includes games from the N64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis era. Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also get a collection of Nintendo GameCube titles.
