Xbox has sparked controversy with the reveal of its collaboration with Crocs, which is expected to drop on November 25, now fondly called Xbox Crocs or XCrocs or XCrox. With the 20th anniversary of the Xbox 360, gamers are on the lookout to see how the company will celebrate the milestone. It appears Microsoft is taking it one step at a time, literally.

The special edition Crocs were announced today with a teaser video. The laces area of the pair of Xbox Crocs was designed to look like an Xbox controller, bearing all the buttons with their respective colors, including the D-pad and joysticks. The Xbox Crocs are priced at $80.

“The Xbox collection just dropped an exclusive Classic Clog style that was designed with gamers in mind,” read the description on Crocs’ website. “Player left or player right, each shoe reimagines the iconic Xbox controller with fixed buttons and joysticks, perfect for couch co-op. Load game, these Crocs shoes were made for kicking back.”

Xbox Crocs 2-3rd

Last November, Microsoft began the “This is an Xbox” marketing campaign to emphasize how Xbox has evolved beyond just being a console. Looking at it through that lens, the Xbox Crocs collaboration feels apt because it doubles down on the company’s desire to be everywhere.

Microsoft has since ended the platform exclusivity that characterized the era of the console war. Several first-party titles have launched on rival platforms. Several upcoming titles are also going multiplatform. The company is desperately looking for ways to be part of the daily lives of gamers.

Not everyone is excited about Xbox Crocs

Several people who clearly don’t like the direction the company has been going lately have taken a swipe at them in the comment section of the announcement.
