Assassin’s Creed Mirage will get a new update next week which will come with New Game Plus. Although no specific date was given for the release of the update, the New Game + will allow players to dive back into the game with all their upgrades and progression.

“New Game + for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming next week!” read the message that was shared on X through the game’s official handle. “Dive back into Basim’s journey with your current progression and new rewards.”

Around mid-November, Ubisoft announced that it was working on the New Game + mode for Assassin’s Creed Mirage and promised it would be available as a free update this December. In addition to New Game +, Ubisoft also announced an optional permadeath mode that will be available across all difficulties.

While the New Game + has now been confirmed for release next week, the permadeath mode appears to have faced a setback and will no longer be released alongside the NG+. Instead, Ubisoft said that it will come as an update in early 2024.

“The team is working on the permadeath mode, which is expected to release in an update early 2024. Stay tuned!” read the message shared through the game’s official X handle on December 7.

We know very little about the permadeath mode for now except that it is a form of difficulty. Sadly, Ubisoft rarely replies to comments under its posts. Therefore, many questions raised by fans of the franchise remained unanswered.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was released across all major consoles on October 5. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max version of the game is set for release in early 2024. The release will challenge the definition of mobile games and also question the relevance of video game streaming.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Ubisoft’s biggest current-gen launch to date

Barely a week after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft announced that the game is its most successful launch on the current-gen consoles in terms of unit sales. Ubisoft compared the success of Mirage to past releases like Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

“Thank you all for joining us on Basim’s journey in 9th Century Baghdad!” Ubisoft said on October 11. “We are thrilled by the response from the community and for embracing our homage to the roots of the AC franchise.”

The development of Assassin’s Creed Mirage was spearheaded by Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio that also championed the development of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Wrath of the Druids expansion. Mirage is promoted as a love letter to the original Assassin’s Creed gameplay with a primary focus on stealth, parkour, and assassinations.

It was a worthy return to the action-adventure playstyle of the game that fans have come to love. Ubisoft said players collectively spent 479 years parkouring the rooftops of Baghdad and have taken 60 million leaps of faith. However, Ubisoft did not disclose the exact number of copies of the game it has sold.

According to reports, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will likely be a standalone experience. Stéphane Boudon, the game’s creative director said, “For now, Mirage has no plan for DLC or extensive post-launch [support]” during a Reddit AMA.

In September, Ubisoft unveiled the roadmap for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. According to the company, the next two flagship games that will come after Mirage have been codenamed Red and Hexe. They will be released as part of the new Infinity franchise hub, the live service initiative it announced in 2021.

Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec (the developer behind Odyssey). The company is targeting 2024 for the release of the Assassin’s Creed codename Red. What’s your favorite moment in Assassin’s Creed Mirage? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.
