Gamers can now preorder the first Xbox handhelds, Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Asus ROG Xbox Ally X. However, in just about seven hours of launching the preorders, the more expensive Asus ROG Xbox Ally X has sold out on the Xbox store worldwide.
Around 14 hours ago, Microsoft posted on X through the official Xbox handle, saying, “Ready to take your gaming anywhere? Pre-order the @ASUS_ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X today”.

Around seven hours later, a new post through the handle read, “The hype is real! ROG Xbox Ally X preorders are sold out on the Xbox Store worldwide.” But what does this mean for gamers?
Well, if you planned to pre-order the device through the Xbox store, that is bad news because you can no longer do so. However, there is still a chance for you to preorder through the Asus store or Best Buy. GameBaba Universe also spotted the product on Amazon.
When you visit the Xbox Store and choose the ROG Xbox Ally X, a “Find a Retailer” button will replace the “Pre-order” button. When you click on it, it will bring up a list of other retailers where you can still pre-order the product.
At the time of writing, the ROG Xbox Ally was still available on the Xbox Store for pre-order. The handheld gaming device will launch on October 16. The ROG Xbox Ally is being retailed for $599.99, while the ROG Xbox Ally X is being retailed for $999.99.
It is interesting that, regardless of the hefty price point, players seem to prefer the ROG Xbox Ally X to the ROG Xbox Ally. The ROG Xbox Ally X comes with 24GB RAM and 1 TB storage, while the ROG Xbox Ally comes with half of that.
The selling out of Xbox Ally X on the Xbox Store may not paint the full picture because of the activities of scalpers who mop up pre-orders and relist them on other marketplaces at exorbitant prices. It is not clear if Xbox has put any checks in place to prevent this.
