The launch of Battlefield 6 has put Call of Duty on the hot seat, with some now saying the latter needs a break. The argument is that the yearly release of CoD has led to a glut and made it harder for the developers to be creative. The number of concurrent players who dived into Battlefield 6 on launch day shows how much gamers desperately yearned for a change.
Within 24 hours of launch, Battlefield 6 attracted 747,440 concurrent players on Steam, which is a long shot beyond the 491,670 all-time concurrent players recorded by Black Ops 6, according to SteamDB data. At the time of writing, over 420,319 gamers were playing on Steam.

The current all-time concurrent player count has also beaten the 521,000 record previously set by the game during the open beta weekend. As the game goes into the first launch weekend, the number could go higher, since more gamers will likely have more time off work to join the party.
Battlefield 6 revived iconic all-out warfare that lets players wage war with infantry and vehicular combat (tanks, fighter jets, helicopters, and more). The destruction mechanics and the gunplay have been widely praised by those who have had a bite.
Battlefield 6 will not use Generative AI elements
In a recent interview with the BBC, the VP general manager of Dice and Criterion, Rebecka Coutaz, confirmed that players will not see GenAI content in Battlefield 6, although it was used in the preparatory stages to provide “more time and more space to be creative”.

Coutaz said GenAI “is very seducing”, but there is no way to incorporate it into the daily tasks performed by developers. The VP stated that GenAI is “not anything to be scared of in our industry”, adding that the gaming industry is “an environment at the bleeding edge of technology”, where change is easily adopted.
According to Coutaz, the only challenge with using GenAI was how to seamlessly incorporate it into a developer’s workflow to help them take their games to the next level.
The use of GenAI in games remains highly contentious, especially on moral grounds, because most gamers have accused the tools of being responsible for the mass layoffs experienced in the industry.
Battlefield 6 has Very Positive reviews on Steam from over 10,000 user reviews. On Metacritic, the game had an average Metascore of 88 on Xbox Series X, 84 on PC, and 83 on PS5.
