Since the shutdown of PlayStation Stars, fans have been wondering how the company was planning to keep the community engaged. On April 7, 2026, PlayStation unveiled The Playerbase, a new community program like none before.

“For over 30 years, we’ve continued to look for ways to celebrate our gaming community, which has a vital role in PlayStation’s history and future,” said Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President, Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in the announcement published on the PlayStation Blog.

“Today, we’re excited to offer an opportunity to bring some of our devoted PlayStation fans even closer to the PlayStation experience. We’re introducing ‘The Playerbase, a unique opportunity for PlayStation’s biggest fans to step into some of the biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned and appear within a PlayStation game.”
The program will begin with Gran Turismo 7 and gradually expand to other first-party titles. The community program is at the moment restricted to select markets in the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.
Players in eligible countries who are interested in being part of The Playerbase program must sign in with their PlayStation account ID through the dedicated program link and provide additional information to participate.

PlayStation will review the applications and select a “limited number of finalists to participate in video interviews” to understand their connection to PlayStation. At the end of the interview, one fan will be selected to feature in Gran Turismo 7 as part of The Playerbase. The selected player will appear as an in-game character portrait.

“The selected fan will also help design a custom Fantasy Logo and a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery which will be added permanently to the Showcase menu. They will be invited to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a scanning day and to collaborate with a designer to create their Fantasy Logo and vehicle livery.”
The Playerbase program is PlayStation’s way of saying “thank you” to gamers who have helped to shape PlayStation into what it is today.
