Developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive have announced that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold 3.3 million copies, exactly 33 days after its launch. This is one of those statistics that’ll leave you wondering if it is a coincidence or something else at play.
“Thirty-three days ago, we released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” read the message posted on the game’s official X handle. “Since then, we’ve sold 3.3 million copies. Seriously. As of today. We couldn’t make that up. Another entry on the long list of surreal moments that your support has made real.”

Adding to the long list of 33s, the message was published at 3:03 PM. Commenting on the post, an X user with the handle @SeptMatch wrote, “Finished in 33 hours on my first time,” and shared a screenshot to support the claim.
The number of copies sold so far doesn’t include players who may have accessed the game through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. The number of players who have sunk hours into the game will likely be significantly higher if Game Pass players are added to the tally.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was launched on April 24. It was positively received, garnering an average Metascore of 92 on PS5 and 91 on both Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game’s success attracted the attention of French President Emmanuel Macron, who praised the studio for surpassing 1 million sales in the first three days.
“One million copies sold and currently one of the highest-rated games in history, and yes, it’s French,” wrote Macron. “Congratulations to Sandfall Interactive and all the creators of Expedition 33. You are a shining example of French audacity and creativity.”

The developers recently addressed fans asking for a story DLC, saying their current priority is improving the current game rather than introducing new content. One of the current patches nerfed Stendhal, the ability that many players considered the strongest, thereby making the game more challenging.
