Crimson Desert has continued its amazing performance. In just 2 weeks of launch, the game has now sold more than four million copies. The studio announced the latest figures on April 1, 2026. The new milestone got many gamers talking, and it is linked to the IGN rating.

The game continues to shut down critics, especially IGN, which gave it a 6/10 rating in their final review. Crimson Desert is one of the many times in recent years where the opinion of critics and gamers doesn’t align.

Unlike most games that see their player numbers slump by over 50% a week after launch, Crimson Desert has continued to hold a steady player count. In fact, the game has beaten its launch day concurrent player numbers on Steam at least twice, as per SteamDB data.

The current peak concurrent player count now stands at 276,261. At the time of writing, 137,971 people were actively playing with a 24-hour peak of 186,022.

IGN Crimson Desert Diss

IGN has recently come under fire for the rating, adding to the growing distrust some games already have for their review scores. One comment under the latest Crimson Desert milestone post read:

“There’s a guy saying if u reach 5 millions copies please make mission where kliff pissing on stone spelling IGN, please do this!!! We need it!!!”

Why Crimson Desert continues to defy critics’ expectations

Cat eating NPC fruit in Crmson Desert

Crimson Desert continues to wow players because of the big and small details. Firstly, players have appreciated how fast the studio listens to feedback and makes changes. The rating dipped at some point but quickly got back up after the developer’s latest update. At the time of writing, the Steam review is Very Positive.

Besides Pearl Abyss’ attentiveness, players have been blown away by the level of care and detail that has been put into the game. One player said they were shocked that their cat was eating a fruit that fell from an NPC’s basket. The realization was shared on Reddit.

Crimson Desert and Fortnite skin collaboration

Crimson Desert and Fortnite

Fortnite has collaborated with lots of popular franchises across games, movies, and so on. Players who purchase Crimson Desert on the Epic Games Store will receive a Kliff outfit as a gift-with-purchase in Fortnite.

Epic Games has been using Fortnite skin gifts to persuade gamers to purchase titles on its platform as it pushes to grab a larger share of the market. The same collaboration was done with Resident Evil Requiem.
