Despite the game’s popularity and positive reception, Bully 2 never happened—and gamers have been asking why. Co-founder of Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, has now confirmed the reason why the eagerly anticipated sequel never happened.

In a recent interview with Ryan McCaffrey of IGN at L.A. Comic Con, which LegachyKillaHD clipped and shared on X, Dan Houser was asked why Bully 2 never happened.

“I think it was just bandwidth issues,” Houser said. “If you got a small lead creative team and a small senior leadership crew, you just can’t do all the projects you want.”

“And you know, certainly how we’re structuring, it’s absurd, we’re trying to do two projects with a fairly small team, and it’s really trying to think through that, how can we do that and keep them both moving”.

For context (especially for those who have not figured it out yet), the bandwidth he mentioned had nothing to do with the server or the Internet, but rather with allocating the dev team. Many fans in the comment section of the post called it a typical “corporate response” and a way of saying, “we had to focus on GTA, which was making us the most money”.

A user with the handle @lumiscera wrote, “I translated it as: We need a bigger team for GTA since that made us more money, so we can’t simply allocate a couple hundred of our team to make a small project.”

Another user, @SlimJimm03, wrote, “Small lead creative team and small leadership crew? They have 12 studios!”

It’s over 2 decades, and @AGuyWhoTweet5 wrote, “Rockstar now has over 5,000 devs, they can easily split it between GTA 6, Bully 2, Agent, GTAO, and RDO,” suggesting that if they really want to, they can easily pull it off now.

Dan Houser and his brother Sam Houser co-founded Rockstar Games. However, Dan left the company in 2020 and later started Absurd Ventures, a multimedia company working on various projects, including video games and animations.
