It is alleged that Capcom is working on a Dead Rising sequel, which will see the return of the game’s original protagonist, Frank West. The original game was launched in 2006. A remaster was launched in 2016, and a newer Deluxe Remaster was digitally launched in 2024, with a physical version coming in November 2024.
The new zombie project allegedly in the works, as reported by MP1st, won’t be a remaster or remake, but rather a new entry in the series. The report has it that Frank West will head to Hollywood in the new Dead Rising entry, with actions taking place within a “massive, enclosed movie studio lot”.
The main villain in the game will force “Frank and other survivors into various trials, all in the pursuit of filming his ‘perfect movie’”. Last year, after the announcement of Onimusha and Okami, Capcom said it was working on “re-activating dormant IPs”.
The video game developer also created a survey where they asked players to choose which of the old IPs they wanted to see.
“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on reactivating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently,” reads a statement provided by the company on its investor site.
“The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”
According to the report, the Dead Rising sequel has been in development since 2023. Many gameplay mechanics from the first game, including time lapses and camera, will make a return in the sequel.
At the time of writing, there is no confirmation on a Dead Rising sequel from Capcom. Therefore, it is always important to cautiously assimilate this sort of information. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what new adventures lie on the path of Frank West.
