March 2026 has been characterized by mass layoffs and studio closures, from Epic Games laying off 1,000 to the shuttering of Wanderstop developer Ivy Road. The latest layoff announcement is coming from Eidos Montreal, the developer behind Deus Ex.

“The reduction in workforce affecting 124 employees is a result of changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams. Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montréal can be most effective.”
Also revealed is that the Head of Studio, David Anfossi, is parting ways with the company. Although no immediate replacement was announced, the studio revealed that “a transition plan is underway”.
Eidos Montreal promised to share more news about Anfossi’s replacement as soon as leadership is finalized. According to the studio, their immediate priority is to support those who have been impacted by the layoff.
“We are deeply grateful to the team members impacted; this decision is not a reflection of their talent, dedication, or performance. Supporting those impacted with care and respect remains our priority, while ensuring continuity for the teams moving forward.”

“I am part of the people affected by today’s layoffs at Eidos-Montreal,” wrote Judith Hantisse. “I’ve worked there for almost 6 years as a gameplay/AI programmer.”
Tool programmer Yoann Potinet tried to humor the situation in his post, “I just got some bad news. Eidos has decided to let go of its “beloved” meme and GIF expert (and shitpost video editor) in mid-May.” He spent 6 years at the studio.
The most passionate appeal we saw was from art director David Bouchard-Gagnon, who wrote, “Today was the saddest day of my career so far. Like many close colleagues at Eidos Montreal, I am now looking for my next opportunity in the game industry.”
“Please think about me if you hear about roles in Art/Presentation Direction, UI and UX. Those past years were with the best team I could hope for and I hope to be able to recreate this magic in my next team.”
Our hearts go out to everyone who the layoffs have impacted, and we hope they land on their feet.
