Recent changes at Xbox suggest Microsoft has given up on the console war that has spanned over two decades. Over the weekend, GameStop shared a post on X titled “GameStop declares the console wars over”.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

“Whearas, for the past two decades, the global gaming community has been engaged in an ongoing and increasingly petty conflict known as The Console Wars;” read the message posted by GameStop.

“Whereas, said conflict originated in the early 2000s with the release of Halo: Combat Evolved as an Xbox-exclusive title; Whereas, Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially coming on PlayStation in 2026 with cross-platform play; Therefore, GameStop, acting under its authority as a Neutral Entity and The World’s Retail Gaming & Trade-in Destination, hereby declares the official cessation of the console wars.

“All claims to exclusivity are hereby dissolved. Console loyalists are instructed to cease hostilities, disband militias, and enjoy this new era of gaming. GameStop will continue to operate as a demilitarized zone, offering hardware, accessories, and trade-ins to combatants on all sides. Power to the players.”

In response to the message, the White House shared an AI image of President Donald Trump as Halo’s Master Chief saluting the flag in front of the White House. This is not the first time that Trump has been at the center of an AI-image or video controversy.

Just recently, Trump shared an AI-generated video where he piloted a fighter jet over a crowd of No Kings protestors and dropped brown sludge on them. There was also a video of popular Democrats bowing in front of him after he put on a crown.

This series of AI-generated videos has ruffled several feathers, including Kenny Loggins, the artist who worked on Danger Zone, a song that has become intertwined with Top Gun.  Xbox recently shared a 13-minute gameplay of Halo: Campaign Evolved, confirming its release on PS5.
