GTA 6 fans have long been anticipating a new update from the upcoming game. Now they have it, and many are freaking out for the wrong reason. That is because the game has been delayed until November 19, 2026.
“Hi everyone,” Rockstar Games began the heartbreaking announcement. “Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”
GTA 6 was previously scheduled to release in Fall 2025. However, earlier this year, the studio announced that the release date had been delayed to May 26, 2026. The latest announcement effectively pushes the game out of the earlier proposed release window.
During the last delay announcement, Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games’ parent company) chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company was optimistic about keeping to the May 26, 2026, release date and that the delay was necessary to meet the standards it expects of the product.
However, Zelnick’s statement accompanying the latest financial results read, “Rockstar Games will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, and we remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.”
“With the most robust pipeline in our Company’s history, we expect to achieve record levels of Net Bookings in Fiscal 2027, which will establish a new baseline for our business and set us on a path of enhanced profitability.”
Zelnick was asked during the Q&A session of the investors call the reason for delaying GTA 6 the second time. Answering the question, he said it was the “desire to deliver as perfect an entertainment experience as we possibly can, and try to live up to consumers’ extraordinary expectations and then exceed those expectations.”
“It’s always painful when we move a date. We have done so occasionally in the past, and we’ve never regretted it in retrospect. I would like to point out that we have some competitors where more polish was required and required slipping a date, they chose not slip the date and, you know, they did so at their peril.”
Gamers respond to GTA 6 delay announcement
Several fans anticipating the game’s release have shared their views under the announcement, including CD Projekt Red, which quoted its 2020 post from Cyberpunk 2077 that said “No more delays are happening”.
Popular YouTuber MrBeast wrote, “Gaming channels are now dead for longer”.
Popular game walkthrough creator theRadbrad said next fall will be insane.
Streamer iShowSpeed had a more dramatic reaction after reading the news, cussing and talking about everything he would have achieved before GTA 6 comes out.
