Gunzilla Games has suffered a second round of layoffs, just three months after the last. Several people started posting about being let go from the studio early this week. Although the number of people impacted remains unknown, at the time of writing, there were close to a dozen posts on LinkedIn from people who claim to have been laid off from the studio.

Gunzilla Games was founded in 2020 and has over 300 employees. The studio is behind the free-to-play game, Off The Grid, which is supported by an NFT marketplace. The game was mostly shot to spotlight, thanks to aggressive promotion from paid streamers.

The layoff is coming at a time when the studio’s “GUN” token has just expanded to Solana blockchain from Avalanche. A GUNZ spokesperson posted on X at that time that,

“Solana is home to some of the largest applications in the entire industry, complete with a massive die-hard community. Our expansion to Solana will provide more accessibility to the token, particularly for U.S. users.”

Earlier this year, Gunzilla Games rescued Game Informer after its sudden shuttering. Commenting on the deal, Gunzilla Games said Game Informer will retain complete editorial independence.

Gunzilla Games acquires Game Informer

“We are proud to welcome the talented voices behind Game Informer in the Gunzilla Games family, and join their fight to preserve the heart of video game journalism in what has been a tumultuous time for the industry,” said Vlad Korolev, CEO & Co-Founder of Gunzilla Games.

“Its legacy spans over 33 years, the publication has had a dedicated readership since its inception and still holds a special place in the hearts of many players across multiple generations — including us.”

Comments from employees affected by the latest Gunzilla Games layoff

At the time of writing, there is still no official statement from Gunzilla Games concerning the layoffs. However, some of the people impacted have hinted at what may have transpired.

Off the grid

“After a year of rewarding collaboration and creative growth, I, unfortunately, was recently laid off due to company restructuring,” wrote hard surface 3D artist Vadym Hetiuk. “This decision was not related to performance or quality, but rather part of a broader organizational shift.”

“I’m incredibly grateful for the time I spent at Gunzilla Games, the amazing team I worked with, and the project that challenged and inspired me as a Principal Hard Surface 3D Artist. It’s been a journey I’ll always value.”

Game producer Oleksii Ivanov also wrote about the layoff in his first-ever LinkedIn post. “And, unfortunately, it comes at a tough moment — due to recent layoffs, I’m no longer with the studio I truly loved being part of,” Ivanov said.

“To my colleagues at Gunzilla Games: saying goodbye is the hardest part. You made my job feel less like work and more like something I loved waking up for every day. And to the games industry itself — I’m not sure when the shift happened, but something feels deeply off. So many brilliant people are being laid off every week. What’s happening to the industry we’ve poured our hearts into?”

Lead artist Cosmin Panfil and DevOps Engineer Oleksii Syrov also posted about being laid off, suggesting that the cut is not localized to any particular department.
