The game director for Hell Is Us, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, recently featured on the Skill Up podcast, where he aired his opinion about Team Cherry’s decision to announce the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong two weeks prior.

“They’re allowed to do what they did,” Jacques-Belletête said in the interview. There are no rules or laws against that.”

“I don’t wanna get say they caused this to us or somebody else, I don’t really care about that, and I don’t really wanna get into that type of debate, but when you’re that big, I think a shadow drop is a bit like wow.”

The hype around Hollow Knight: Silksong meant that many developers tried to avoid releasing their games on the same day—or even close to—the indie hit. However, the way the game’s release date was announced meant that other developers barely had time to move their dates if it had already been fixed.

It is believed that Hollow Knight: Silksong was the reason Demonschool was delayed to November. Jacques-Belletête called Silksong the “GTA of Indie,” adding that “to shadow drop something like this is a little callous”.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was not really shadow-dropped because that would have meant announcing and releasing it on the same day. However, other developers can argue that they were not given enough time to pick dates.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a second big patch

Hollow Knight 2

Team Cherry has announced that they are close to finalizing the second post-release patch for Hollow Knight: Silksong. The announcement was made on the developer’s Steam page.

“Where the first patch dealt mainly with critical issues, this next one focuses on a few still remaining, while also cleaning up some bugs around specific tools,” the developer said.
