The general perception in the Xbox community was that Series X|S will likely be the last consoles from Microsoft. On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the company teased Project Helix with a short video revealing the logo of the next generation of Xbox console.

After an executive reset last February that saw the exit of Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond, Asha Sharma was named the new boss of the Microsoft gaming division. Since her appointment, Sharma appears to be taking steps to win back the community’s loyalty.

Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console,” the new boss wrote in a separate message.

“Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”

The message from Sharma confirms long-running rumors that the next Xbox console will be a PC-hybrid. Last October, YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead posted a video of what he claimed was the main processor for the next Xbox console. The YouTuber claimed the next Xbox console was going to have the capability of playing games from other PC game stores, in addition to the Xbox store.

Later in the same month, Bond told Mashable that “the next-gen console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience,” adding that “You’re starting to see some of the thinking that we have in this handheld, but I don’t want to give it all away.”

Fans are not convinced by the next Xbox console teaser

Xbox series

Notwithstanding the teaser confirming the next-generation Xbox console, the community’s pessimism has continued. The majority of the comments under the Project Helix teaser video echoed the distrust.

“My Xbox X has become a $500 DVD player,” wrote @SWT_Channel. “Is there any hope you’ll cut the ‘streaming service’ nonsense and actually make a gaming console for gamers? Like you used to…”

Another comment from @AXISPAW read, “I’m guessing from the logo that the cylindrical mid-gen refresh design for the Series X is what this will end up being? Or something similar.”
