Over the weekend, it was reported that Nintendo has suffered what appears to be a high-profile breach orchestrated by the notorious Crimson Collective group, the same criminal outfit that recently hacked Red Hat.

The post that made rounds on October 11, 2025, included what appears to be a repository of Nintendo folders. The legitimacy of the breach has yet to be confirmed or denied by Nintendo.

The news was first shared on the social media platform Xcancel by Hackmanac (@H4ckmanac) with the caption, “Crimson Collective hacking group, known for the breach on Red Hat, now claims to have breached Nintendo”.

The file repository shared by the group includes folders on test assets, mail assets, Ncom production assets, and many more. While the authenticity of this breach remains unclear, it is not the first time that the Switch maker has been breached.

The company suffered a massive breach that occurred between 2018 and 2020. Following that breach, the source code of classic games was shared online. The 2020 Nintendo Network ID breach is still fresh in mind, with more than 300,000 user accounts impacted.

Even if the hack turns out to be legitimate, some people have not been sympathetic to the news. A comment from @shotgunner101 read, “Oh not, not the company that uses lawfare as a weapon to silence everything from charity events to gaming tournaments, to fan made mods, to new concepts on games all the way to people they just straight up dislike. This is the one time I’m like maybe it’s karma”.

Another user with the handle @oxob3333_ wrote, “No data user leaks? Nice. Also, if the hackers see this, can you check about xenoblade or virtual consoles updates, please? Thank you.”
