Rematch continues to set records in its first full launch week. Just three days after launch, the developer announced that the game had reached 1 million unique players. The latest update from Sloclap shows that the number has swelled to 3 million unique players.

Sloclap also shared interesting statistics from the game, revealing that fans of the soccer sim have been busy. In the message posted on social media announcing the new milestone, the developers shared the following stats from players:

According to the developer, “This is just the beginning”. On Steam, the game attracted more than 92,000 concurrent players in the first 24 hours after launch. While we expected that number to grow over the launch weekend, that didn’t happen—but that doesn’t mean people were not playing.

While Sloclap has focused on “unique players” in its social media posts (and understandably so, since it is a day one addition to Xbox Game Pass), Lee Brady of True Achievements claims (citing a recent press release), Rematch has sold one million copies since launch.

If that figure is something we should stick with, it means many players (about half the total unique players) experienced the game through Xbox Game Pass. Either way, the number is big news for both Sloclap and the publisher, Kepler Interactive.

Rematch sand field

There is a growing notion that the addition of titles to Xbox Game Pass “devalues content”. This idea was recently echoed by Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of Revenge of the Savage Planet, which launched on Game Pass earlier this year. According to him, Game Pass creates an attitude where “people are less willing to pay for things,” which hurts sales.

However, the success of Rematch so far suggests that it may not be entirely true. There is still a large number of gamers who want to perpetually own copies of their games rather than leaving it to the hands of platform holders to decide when they can play.
