According to reports and social media posts, Sony has formed a new studio within PlayStation. What’s particularly interesting about the new studio is that it is made up of former Deviation Games employees.

Sony Allegedly Forms New Studio With Ex-Deviation Games Employees

“Hey, I hear that a lot of previous Deviation Games employees have set up their own studio at Sony working on an undisclosed new IP,” wrote former technical director at Deviation Games, Michael Anthony. “All the people I see working there that have signed up are top-class developers and hope that you can create a top-class new IP with your studio that hopefully gives you all the time you need to create a quality product and not have to deal with red tape from previous projects.”

Deviation Games was founded in 2020 by former Call of Duty developers. However, the studio was shuttered in March this year—before it got the chance to release its debut IP. What is particularly interesting about the new development is that Deviation Games was backed by PlayStation.

Announcing the studio’s closure at that time, the studio’s chief HR and operations officer Kriste Stull wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Deviation Games. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our entire team. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and contributions to Deviation; I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each and every one of you.”

The first sign of trouble at Deviation Games was when one of its co-founders and chief executive officer Jason Blundell left the studio. However, it appears Blundell is involved in the new studio as head. Perhaps, the entire drama was the only way to get Dave Anthony (the other co-founder) out of the picture.

Anthony’s post appears to be corroborated by a post made by JC Farmer, a former Deviation Games staff, back in December. “I’ve been wanting to say this for a while but now I finally can! I’m a Junior Game Designer @PlayStation Studios. And I work for Jason Blundell,” Farmer wrote.
