Unlike Microsoft, which has released a flurry of first-party titles on rival platforms, Sony is more calculated in the games it sends to PC. Ever since the trend started, first-party titles like The Last of Us, Horizon, Spider-Man, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima franchises have all been launched on PC. However, none of them has been nearly as successful as Stellar Blade.
Success on Steam is usually measured by Peak concurrent player numbers. According to SteamDB, Stellar Blade attracted 192,078 peak concurrent players, which is 2.5x more than the previous 77,154 record held by Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.

There has been a flurry of activities in Shift Up concerning Stellar Blade. A few hours ago, Genki Japan revealed that the number of employees at Shift Up who are currently working on what would be a sequel to the game has grown to 101. They also announced that the developer is currently on a mass recruitment drive to add more members to the team.
A new recruitment post from the developer’s official Korean website also suggests that Stellar Blade 2 will be multiplatform. While the first title was a PS5 exclusive, it appears that whatever deal they struck with PlayStation doesn’t include the sequel. For now, no port for the first game has been announced for Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2.
Shift Up’s CEO, Kim Hyung Tae, is still the largest shareholder in the company (43%). Chinese gaming giant Tencent owns a 34% stake in the company, while the remaining 23% is distributed among other shareholders.
There was a lot of controversy around Stellar Blade before its launch. The majority of the controversy was centered around the protagonist Eve’s realistic character model, which was later revealed to be a 3D scan of a Korean model. At some point, there was a petition against the company to stop it from censoring the game.
