Ubisoft Forward is one of the virtual showcases that was born out of necessity, following the global pandemic and restrictions. The virtual event, which started in 2020, has been held every year since then. However, that streak will likely be broken this year—but that reality won’t be too surprising.
In the announcement for the maiden edition, which was held on July 12, 2020, Ubisoft said Ubisoft Forward will be an “E3-style showcase with plenty of exclusive game news, exciting reveals, and much more”.

Stephen Totilo of Game File claimed that he was informed by a Ubisoft representative that there will be no Ubisoft Forward this summer. Instead, the publisher plans to be part of other events happening this summer, including IGN Live (June 7-8), PC Gaming Show (June 8), and Gamescom (August 20-24).
“We are always eager to connect with our players and showcase our games,” the representative told Totilo. “We are continuing to explore opportunities to share updates, and we look forward to providing more information at a later date.”
Sharing the news on BlueSky, Totilo said the reason is likely because the company doesn’t have “a big line-up for the rest of the year”, adding that the game maker is in “cost-cutting mode”.
The most recent Ubisoft release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has a vague roadmap that was only specific through June. The rest of the content planned for the game, including the story expansion, was wrapped in a vague “later this year” timeline.
I don't think Ubisoft has a big line-up for the rest of the year, plus it's in cost-cutting mode, so it's not shocking that they're skippingIt's still curious to me, though, that the AC Shadows roadmap only specifies releases through June with a vaguer later-this-year for the game's 1st expansion

As far as gamers are aware, games in development at Ubisoft include Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, and Anno 117: Pax Romana. The next Ghost Recon is also in the works, called Project Over, as well as a remake of the first Splinter Cell game, and several Assassin’s Creed titles.
Last month, Ubisoft revealed that it has delayed unannounced major titles to give the developers additional time. Perhaps, the reason why there won’t be Ubisoft Forward this year is because the publisher has learned from history, where it announces and is under pressure to deliver.
