Baldur’s Gate 3 Shines At The Game Awards 2023

From one event to another, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to sweep awards. The Larian Studios classic was the star of the show at The Game Awards 2023. It beat five other nominees including Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to win the most coveted Game of the Year award.

“I didn’t expect it,” said Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke in his acceptance speech. “Thank you. A game like Baldur’s Gate 3 is impossible if you don’t have an incredible team working on it. The team at Larian spent their heart and souls for six years working on this game, sometimes in very difficult circumstances. This was a COVID game.”

In addition to winning the biggest prize for the night, it also won the Players’ Voice award, a category where the winner is picked based on 100% player votes, unlike all the other categories where player votes are just 10% of the total tally.

In addition to the two categories, Baldur’s Gate 3 was also named the best multiplayer game beating Diablo IV and four other games in that category. The Larian classic also won in the best RPG and best community support categories. Neil Newbon who played the role of Astarion Ancunin in Baldur’s Gate 3 was named winner in the best performance category.

While presenting the award, Christopher Judge who played the role of Kratos joked that no one would beat his 8-minute speech when he won the award last year. He further took a jab at Modern Warfare III saying his speech was longer than the campaign of Modern Warfare 3. It was a joke Activision will surely not laugh at.

Larian also announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been added to the Xbox Store during The Game Awards, a fulfillment of the studio’s promise to deliver the game to Xbox before the end of this year. Although Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 received a total of 8 nominations each, the former outpaced Alan Wake in winnings.
