Meccha Chameleon was launched on June 10, 2026, and quickly went viral for its unique twist on the first-person shooter genre. The game was developed and published by solo developer Lemorion_1224.

Today, August 12, 2026, the developer shared a post on the game’s Steam page announcing that the game has sold 20 million copies. “Over 20 million units sold!” the developer wrote, keeping the announcement short as always. “Thank you for your support!”

This is a great feat for a solo developer. Some have attributed the game’s success to its low price ($5.99), without taking anything away from the fun gameplay experience.
For those who may be wondering what type of game Meccha Chameleon is, the official blurb reads, “Paint yourself to blend in! ‘Meccha Chameleon’ is a new-sensation hide-and-seek game where you paint your white body to mimic the stage. Spot, pose, and ‘artistic skill’ are keys to survival. Deceive Seekers with techniques that put chameleons to shame!”
The game has over 40,000 reviews, and 90% of them are Very Positive. This is not the first game from Lemorion. The solo developer launched Penguin Hotel in October 2024, followed by Pexit 8 in February 2025. Both games were free to play.
Lemorion’s first paid title was Penguin Hotel 2 – Snake Penguin Ambition in March 2025. The developer also released Death Burger in August 2025. Lemorion launched Link Penguins in April 2026, followed by Meccha Chameleon, which is by far Lemorion’s most successful release to date.
Meccha Chameleon is only available on PC via Steam. However, with the game’s success, it may not take long before it launches on console.
The message indie devs should take from Meccha Chameleon is this: If you try the first time and it doesn’t work, try the second, third, fourth, and fifth time. The sixth time may be the charm.
