A new report from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg claimed that dozens of employees at Rockstar Games, the studio working on GTA 6, have been fired for misconduct. However, it is alleged that the real motive is to prevent the formation of a union. Around 30 to 40 employees were affected across the UK and Canada.

According to the report, the employees affected were part of a “private trade union chat” on Discord. GTA 6 has been in development for years, and Rockstar Games is gearing up for its release next year. It is widely projected that it would be the largest game launch in history.

A spokesperson for the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) claimed the firing of the workers was an attempt to prevent unionization amongst the team members, rather than misconduct, as the company tagged it.

“Rockstar has just carried out one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry,” alleged the union spokesperson. “This flagrant contempt for the law and for the lives of the workers who bring in their billions is an insult to their fans and the global industry.”

The allegation has been rebutted by Take-Two, the GTA 6 studio’s parent company, insisting the firing was because of “gross misconduct”. However, the report suggested all the employees were fired at the same time and that all of them were found to be members of a private chat on Discord.

GTA 6 is worth $100 price tag

Lester Crest in GTA 5

How much GTA 6 will cost has remained a burning question in the gaming community. Fans have continued to theorize that it would be the first game to cost $100 for the standard edition. GTA actor Jay Klaitz recently shared a similar sentiment in a recent interview with The Escapist.

Klaitz played the role of Lester Crest in GTA 5. During the interview, he talked about his experiences acting the character and performing alongside the game’s lead actors. It wasn’t long before the discussion dived into GTA 6 and Klaitz was asked about his expectations, including the rumored price point. He justified a $100 price point with reasons.

“GTA V was so heavy on the mocap,” Klaitz said. “I assume that GTA VI will be the same way, and these games take so long to make. Years and years and years. It’s not like they’ve just been hanging out, chilling and then just started doing the work last year. They finished GTA V and then started on GTA VI more or less immediately thereafter.”

“This sh*t takes forever and as we saw with GTA V the game will come out and there will be other versions, there will be downloadable content, it will be online. You’re almost buying multiple games when you buy the one.

I would also like to see it made more accessible to more fans so I get that side of the argument too to make it affordable for folks. That’s cool too. Maybe there’s like a way to split the difference, but I share the sentiment that this game warrants that price tag. Yeah, I get that.”
