Emerging posts across social media suggest layoffs happened (or are happening) at Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries). This is coming barely a week after the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved across Xbox, PS5, and PC via Steam.

Halo

Halo: Campaign Evolved is the first in the series to be released on PlayStation. The game launched globally on July 28, 2026. However, players who purchased the Premium and Collector’s editions got five days early start.

Several posts have emerged on LinkedIn from people who worked at Halo Studios confirming they have been laid off. It is unclear if this is a new round of layoffs or part of the July Xbox layoff announcement that saw several studios, including Compulsion Games and Double Fine Productions, return to indie studios.

“After 6.5 years working on Halo and dodging just as many rounds of layoffs – it has finally caught up to me,” wrote producer Nick Treitman. “I have nothing but love for Halo and the folks at the studio, this is just a tough reality in the gaming industry right now.”

Another producer, Paul Morris, said he was informed on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, that his time at Halo Studios was up. On LinkedIn, he wrote, “Today, I learned my time at Halo Studios will be coming to an end following the successful launch of our latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved”.

In the post, Morris reminisced about the reason he joined the industry: “Every player has a game they’ll never forget. That’s why I chose this career. I want to help create games that bring smiles to players and create memories they’ll carry with them for years. That’s what drives me.”

While he acknowledged that the industry was going through a tough time and the road ahead may not be paved, he said, “But I’m not done, and my purpose has not changed”.

Halo: Campaign Evolved has been widely praised, especially for preserving the DNA of the series. However, others have criticized it for lacking ambition. The game earned an average Metascore of 83 on Xbox Series X, 81 on PS5, and 77 on PC.

GameBaba Universe will continue to monitor this matter to understand the true state of things at Halo Studios.
