Over the last decade, PlayStation Studios have released amazing games like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and Uncharted series. However, none of them has attracted more concurrent players as Helldivers 2 did on launch day. According to SteamDB, the game pulled in 81,840 concurrent players within 24 hours of launch.
Helldivers 2 is the first game from PlayStation studios that got a PC port on launch day. For others, it mostly happens years after the original release. That was the case for games like The Last of Us Part I, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, and God of War.

A PC port for a game by PlayStation studios usually happens years after the initial release—usually when the hype around the original release has died down. Therefore, it is not surprising that Helldivers 2 has beaten several other big titles in this regard. Below is a rundown of all the peak concurrent players of a PlayStation game on Steam.

Helldivers 2 is the sequel to the 2015 release. Coming nearly a decade after the first game in the series, it has been revamped and plays and feels different compared to the first game. For example, while the first installment was a top-down shooter, Arrowhead Game Studios took a third-person approach in the latest entry.

Helldivers 2 was launched globally on February 8, 2024. However, players who purchased the more expensive Deluxe Edition received 3-day early access—in addition to other perks. The game allows up to four players in the co-op mode and draws inspiration from military science fiction like Starship Troopers and Aliens.
Helldivers 2 launched to a rocky start on PC
The concurrent player count attained by Helldivers 2 deserves to be celebrated considering the rocky start of the game. The game launched to a mixed review on Steam with only around 52% positive reviews.
The majority of the negative reviews revolved around server issues and the tendency of the game to crash. Some players asserted that the reason for the crash was the use of nProtect GameGuard anti-cheat software.

The situation has since improved with the game having Mostly Positive reviews at the time of writing this post. It is also important to mention that the game had over 11,000 reviews.
Helldivers 2 was announced during a PlayStation Showcase in May last year. It was earlier scheduled to launch in 2023. However, it was later delayed until 2024. The PlayStation studio release was also the top-selling game on Steam on Friday, February 9, 2024, according to the SteamDB chart.
Sony unveils Helldivers 2 PC specs and crossplay support details
A day after the release of Helldivers 2, Katherine Baskin, Arrowhead Game Studios’ social media and community manager, disclosed details about the game’s crossplay and PC features. The revelation also came with a new trailer.

“We’re pleased to announce that Helldivers 2 supports crossplay!” Baskin wrote on the PlayStation blog. “That means your teammates on PC can play with you on PS5 and vice versa. Community and teamwork are the most important pillars of Helldivers 2, and so it is essential to ensure players can work together regardless of the system they choose to use.”
The new trailer also revealed some of the features that will be coming to the game on PC, including;
- Up to stunning 4K
- Choice between using DualSense controller or keyboard and mouse
- Crossplay between PS5 and PC
