Road to Vostok is a new hardcore first-person shooter that resembles Escape from Tarkov. However, what’s more interesting is that it was created by a solo Finnish developer and former army lieutenant, Antti Leinonen.
“Road to Vostok is a hardcore single-player survival game set in a post-apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia,” read the blurb. “Survive, loot, plan, and prepare to cross the border into Vostok, a permadeath zone where one mistake can end it all.”

Road To Vostok launched into Early Access on Steam on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The game is priced at $19.99. However, a 25% discount applies for the first two weeks of launch, which brings the price down to $14.99.
Leinonen, who is also a game designer, has been working full-time on Road to Vostok since 2022. Following the controversy over Unity’s pricing, he transitioned the project to the Godot engine.
Road to Vostok development and funding
Leinonen has 12 years of experience in the game industry and brings his military training experience to the game’s mechanics, with a promise of high realism. The development of Road to Vostok has been characterized by transparency, including frequent dev logs (35+) and public demos. He relies on Patreon for funding rather than on traditional publishers.
Although Leinonen is the game’s solo developer, he acknowledged that he occasionally uses part-time contractors for certain development topics. At the moment, the game is only available on PC, specifically on Windows and Linux OS.
At the time of writing, Road to Vostok has nearly 1,000 Very Positive reviews on Steam. According to SteamDB stats, the game launched to 5,141 peak concurrent players.
