Pragmata was revealed on June 11, 2020. It was part of the long list of games showcased at Sony’s PlayStation 5 “Future of Gaming” event. The new IP from Capcom was initially scheduled for a 2022 release. However, in January 2021, the developer announced that the game had been delayed until 2023.

In June 2023, the game got a new trailer that revealed that the release had been delayed indefinitely. Just when many Capcom fans had given up on the game ever making it to the hands of players, a new trailer surfaced during the 2025 Summer Game Fest with a 2026 release date.

Pragmata director Yonghee Cho, through a Q&A video shared at Pax West 2025, has explained the circumstances that led to the delay in the game’s development. The questions Cho responded to were sent in by fans through different social media platforms.
One of the questions sent in by @_Gradonlong_ on Instagram asked, “What do you feel kept the team going when production on this title took longer than expected?”
Before responding to the question, Cho thanked everyone who had been waiting eagerly for Pragmata through the long years of delay. According to him, the delay was from trying to make the hacking and shooting mechanic fun.
“The central concept of the game—Diana and Hugh cooperating, hacking and shooting to progress—was always there from the early stages and hasn’t changed,” Cho said. “But, translating that concept into fun, interesting gameplay took time.”
Two important questions that emerged during the development that the developer tried to answer were:
- Is the game we want to make one that players will enjoy?
- Does the originality help create something interesting, or is it only original for originality’s sake?
“As the development team, we repeatedly asked ourselves these types of questions as we went through trial and error. Of course, taking more time than expected resulted in some difficult times too, but a huge part of what kept us going was the voices of fans who, every time there was a digital showcase, never gave up, never forgot about Pragmata.”
Capcom has retained stages from Pragmata’s initial reveal
Another question sent in by @Figuecastil99 on Instagram asked if the “Times Square(ish) stage from the reveal” was still playable. While Cho refused to go into details, he said the entire game is set within the lunar facility—and nothing previously shown has been removed.

“Players will encounter more than the mechanical environments that we’ve shown so far. There’s a few unique stages that we think will make you say, ‘whoa!’ One of those is ‘Times Square on the Moon,’ which is indeed in the game.”
However, Cho said that through the course of development, they have been updating the stage, and it is no longer “exactly like the early concept footage”.
“For example, satellites won’t be crashing down. We plan to show you what the Time Square stage looks like in the near future, so please stay tuned!”
