The Launch of 007 First Light has been a phenomenal success for IO Interactive. The game sold 2.7 million copies in its first week and has now surpassed 3 million. Some fans have been eager to know what comes next.
While it seems too early to be talking about a sequel to a game that was barely launched, Amazon’s Head of Gaming, Jeff Gattis, recently hinted at the future of the franchise at the Summer Game Fest.

According to reports, Gattis had said that sequels will be “done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios”, which left a lot of 007 First Light fans confused and worried. Speaking with IGN at the Summer Game Fest, Gattis provided clarity on that statement.
“First of all, let me set the record straight for you,” he said. “I did not confirm that Amazon Game Studios is publishing the next one. Did not say that. So unfortunately, it got picked up, and once it runs, it runs. No, IO’s been great. They’ve been great partners. In fact, I was over there visiting them in Copenhagen a couple of months ago. The game’s doing great. Let’s let the game breathe and have its day.”
“Trust that we’re going to be smart about this. I mean, it’s market appetite. As long as we feel there’s a desire for players to have the game, it’s safe to say it’s going to be made.”
Gattis did not expressly confirm a sequel for the game. But, when asked if a healthy 007 First Light profit was enough motivation to greenlight a sequel, Gattis said, “Seems like a sequel should be made”.

While this is not a guarantee, it shows that the idea is under consideration. 007 First Light was launched on May 27, 2026. It earned an average Metascore of 88 on Xbox Series X, 87 on PS5, and 85 on PC.
Last week, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak told IGN he was “very confident” the game would be profitable for the studio, notwithstanding that it is the most expensive game the studio has ever made. “There’s some royalty models and whatnot around this, but we are well above our forecasts at this point,” he said.
