The underwhelming release of Until Dawn Remake set Ballistic Moon on a downward spiral that led to significant layoffs in 2024. Multiple reports in 2025 had claimed that the studio had closed. The closure has now been confirmed by a UK government filing.

Directors Lennox-Lamb Christopher and Mcewan Neil Russell applied to be struck off and dissolved on 30th October, 2025. The filling started a process that would eventually lead to the dissolution of the company.

“I/We as the majority of directors apply for the company to be struck off the Register and declare that none of the circumstances described in section 1004 and 1005 of the Companies Act 2006 (being circumstances in which the directors would otherwise be prohibited under those sections from making an application) exists in relation to the company,” read the message from the directors at that time.
The first Gazette was published on 11 November 2025, and it read, “The Registrar of Companies gives notice that, unless cause is shown to the contrary, the Company will be struck off the register and dissolved not less than 2 months from the date shown above”.
The Final Gazette Notice was published on February 3, 2026, confirming that Ballistic Moon was struck off from the register on January 21, 2026, and dissolved on February 3, 2026.
A look back at Ballistic Moon legacy
Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 by former Supermassive Games veterans Neil McEwan, Duncan Kershaw, and Christopher Lamb. The studio was based in Woking, Surrey, UK.

At the time the studio was founded, it said its focus was on creating exceptional and innovative games of the future. In February 2023, it was widely reported that Sony had acquired Ballistic Moon. Eventually, the studio was tasked with developing the enhanced version of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC.
Until Dawn remake launched to a mixed reception, amassing an average Metascore of 70. The game was released in October 2024, and by December of that year, the company quietly laid off the staff left behind to support the game post-launch. No Sony or Ballistic Moon representative has commented on the studio’s dissolution.
