Sony posted record profits in its gaming division in the 2025 fiscal year. This success came amidst declining first-party PlayStation game sales. The bulk of the profit from the gaming division came from the PlayStation Plus service.

PlayStation Plus subscription tiers

The subscription service gives fans access to PlayStation’s online multiplayer services and bonuses like cloud storage, curated game library, exclusive discounts, and more. The perks increase as you climb higher up the subscription tiers.

In Sony’s latest financial report, the company confirmed its plan to make PlayStation Plus more competitive by continually improving its content to keep subscribers engaged.

“Sony is focused on driving profitable growth of PS Plus by increasing user engagement and continuously improving its service proposition and content, as well as inviting users to shift to higher tiers,” the company said in a statement, as spotted by Gamerant.

PlayStation Plus offers three subscription tiers, namely Essential, Extra, and Premium. Each of them offers a different level of content in addition to online multiplayer services. The price starts from $10.99 per month for the Essential and climbs to $19.99 per month for Premium.

Its closest competitor, the Xbox Game Pass, has the price of the Essential pegged at $9.99 per month and the Game Pass Ultimate available for $22.99 per month. Based on price alone, gamers will be more willing to go for PlayStation Premium instead of Game Pass Ultimate.
