Capcom took representation in video games to a new height during the development of Pragmata. In a recent interview, the game director Cho Yonghee revealed that they created ‘Diana Police’ made up entirely of women to ensure Diana was not too cute or annoying.

Capcom released Pragmata on April 17, 2026, across all platforms. The game features the complex relationship between a human male (Hugh) and an android girl (Diana). It has sold over 2 million copies since launch. Although it is a new IP, it has gained significant attention because of its unique story and gameplay.

To celebrate the game’s success, Capcom held a special event on June 18, which coincidentally falls close to Father’s Day. The game producer Naoto Oyama revealed that the reason for hosting the event was because they wanted to express their gratitude to everyone who has played the game.
During the event, the producer and director spoke to the press, as reported by Game Sparks, and discussed what went into Hugh and Diana’s design and concept. They revealed that Hugh’s name has a secret derived from ‘Human’. While creating Diana, their focus was to bring a character to life that would evoke a strong sense of attachment.
According to Oyama, the fact that Hugh, who is a human, looks like a robot at first glance, and Diana, who is an android, looks like a human, was an interesting design feature. According to Yonghee, the aim of the entire development team was to create a game that “never gets boring no matter how many times you play it”.
Capcom didn’t want Diana to be too cute

Diana was voiced by Mio Tanaka. During her first recording session, she was told not to “make it too cute, but speak naturally like a child”. Tanaka revealed during the event that acting naturally was difficult, especially because she had to match the foreign audio and timing.

Oyama added that the team had a ‘Diana police’ that checked to ensure the character wasn’t too cute or annoying. ‘Diana police’ was made up entirely of women, according to Yonghee, adding that “women are more likely to notice the ‘cunning’ of female characters than men, who might wonder, ‘What’s the difference?’ I think all the staff at the Diana Police were women”.
“During development, defining the character’s personality was a challenge,” Oyama added. “Once the game is released, there’s a shared understanding among users that the character is like this, but during development, it’s expected to change, so even if you set a core character, there will be parts that deviate. The entire team works together to correct those deviations and create the realistic character images we see today.”
