7 Days to Die is a survival horror game that was launched into Early Access on Steam on December 13, 2013. The game remained in Early Access for over a decade but has continued to evolve over the years. In a recent announcement, Richard Huenink, the CEO of The Fun Pimps (the studio behind the game) announced what lies ahead for 7 Days to Die.

“With more than a decade of development, 7 days has accomplished more than our teams or critics could have ever imagined,” said Huenink. “After nearly 12 years, many consider 7 Days to be the crown jewel of survival games on the market today.”

“We’ve seen our game and audience grow and evolve over the years. It’s been shown at trade shows and had countless Early Access releases. We’ve had a few speed bumps along the way, but we think the team community and game are ready for the next steps.”

Huenink announced that 7 Days to Die will be leaving Early Access, paving the way for the launch of version 1.0. According to the studio’s CEO, The Fun Pimps has not forgotten about all the features they promised for the game and pledged to support the game for years to come.

Also included in the announcement is a roadmap for 7 Days to Die. According to the roadmap, 7 Days to Die version 1.0 will launch in June with a planned console launch the following month. Huenink said the exact dates will be revealed as we get closer. However, the studio mentioned that the dates are subject to change.

The Fun Pimps has overhauled the game’s clothing, armor, and character system. The list of improvements that will be coming to the game include:

  • Revamped vehicle assets
  • New animals
  • New gore system for zombies
  • Enhance zombie variance
  • New challenge system
  • New props
  • Road decals
  • New pals
  • Updated VFX/graphics upgrades
  • Updated controller support, and others

In Q4 2024, The Fun Pimps is planning to roll out a DLC called Storms Brewing which will come with new weather systems and a biome progression overhaul. Also intended for rollout with the update is crossplay—which will likely allow players on PC and consoles to band together. New content is also planned for 7 Days to Die in Q2 and Q4 2025.

“Future Alpha updates will turn into major content patches,” said Huenink. “We will still have experimental builds with stable releases going to consoles and other PC markets once they’re ready.”

7 Days to Die price will be reviewed with 1.0 launch

If you have ever planned to jump on 7 Days to Die, the best time to do so will be before the launch of stable version 1.0 in June. According to Huenink, the price will be reviewed to match the current price of games on consoles after that launch. However, nothing will change for those who already own the game.

“With the launch of stable 1.0, the current retail price of the game will increase to match the cost of the new console edition,” Huenink said. “If you currently own 7 Days on PC or purchase it before 1.0’s launch, then nothing will change.”

“You will still get all major free updates coming. The only real change is that anyone who has not purchased the game by the launch of 1.0 will have to purchase it at a new price.”

In anticipation of the launch of version 1.0, The Fun Pimps is running a Last Chance Steam Sale which will last from April 22 to 29. The weeklong 76% discount sales promo will give gamers a chance to hop onboard 7 Days to Die.

“We are sharing this because we wanted to give all players the opportunity to purchase 7 Days on Steam at the lowest discount before the price goes up,” Huenink said.

The console version of 7 Days to Die will be a digital-only release. Also, the legacy edition of the game is not playable on new consoles and players will have to purchase the new version. Huenink blamed this on differences in hardware but said they were “working closely with Sony and Microsoft to provide a discount to the digital legacy console version owners”.
