Layoffs continue to sweep through video game studios across the globe. The latest studio to be impacted is Combat Waffle Studios. The founder and CEO, Scott Albright, broke the bitter news on LinkedIn.

“Today we made the difficult decision to reduce the size of our team,” Albright wrote on Thursday, June 25, 2026. “As part of this, we are saying goodbye to a number of talented individuals who have contributed meaningfully to our work. We are grateful for their efforts and are committed to supporting them as they transition to new opportunities. Any studio would be fortunate to have them.”

Albright blamed the layoff on the cancellation of a project they were working on in collaboration with “a large platform partner”. While no names were mentioned in the announcement, it is important to mention that Combat Waffle Studios releases games on SteamVR and Meta Quest platforms. However, Ghosts of Tabor was also available on PlayStation and Pico. The unnamed partner can be any of the above.
“These actions are part of a broader effort to align the company with the current state of the VR industry and ensure we are positioned for long-term sustainability,” Albright added.
“Our focus remains unchanged. Ghosts of Tabor continues to be our core product, and we will continue expanding that universe alongside our partners. We remain confident in the future of VR and our role within it.”
According to Combat Waffle Studios’ LinkedIn page, the VR maker has fewer than 50 employees. The number of employees impacted by this decision remains unclear.
Combat Waffle Studios is a veteran-owned studio

Combat Waffles Studios was founded in 2022 and has its headquarters in Venice, Florida. Their debut game was a VR extraction shooter, Ghosts of Tabor. The debut experience achieved several milestones, including hitting #1 on the top sellers’ list on SteamVR and being the fastest trending title on Meta Quest’s App Labs shortly after launch.

Ghosts of Tabor also reached #1 on Steam for VR games and #11 on all games, including non-VR titles on launch day. Following the success of Ghosts of Tabor, the studio released GRIM and Silent North a few years later.
GRIM is an exclusive VR multiplayer survival game where you must immerse yourself in its red wasteland, where survival is not just a choice but a grueling battle against nature and other desperate players.
Silent North, on the other hand, thrusts you into the Swiss Alps, battling the elements, infected, and other players. You can fight solo or team up, scavenging gear and essentials. The intense PVPVE action ensures constant danger.
GameBaba Universe empathizes with everyone impacted by this decision and hopes they land on their feet soon.
