The news that Ninja Theory is facing closure hit differently, especially because the latest installment in the Senua series was in development at the studio, and even got a gameplay reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.
The latest report on Game File claims the decision to either part ways with Ninja Theory had already been made, even before the Xbox Games Showcase. A source told Game File that the reason for revealing Senua is to help the new game attract investors. However, it wasn’t clear if the studio heads were part of the idea.

During the Xbox Games Showcase, it was revealed that Ninja Theory was scrapping its horror project, Project Mara, to focus exclusively on Senua. The game was expected to launch in 2027. However, with the current news around the studio, it is unclear if fans should remain hopeful about playing the game in 2027.
Besides Senua’s studio, Double Fine and Compulsion Games have been reported to be at risk of closure. It was said that some of the studios are now discussing a possible buyout with Microsoft to prevent them from being shuttered.
During the Xbox Games Showcase, the company leadership announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be console exclusives. It was later alleged that the leadership was reconsidering the decision. However, one Xbox executive confirmed the company wasn’t reversing course on its exclusive games strategy.
