Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise was born in 2001. Two-and-a-half decades later, the franchise has welcomed 60 million players across 15 main and spin-off titles—excluding major expansions, DLCs, and cancelled projects like Ghost Recon Frontline.
“25 years. 60 million players. To mark this double milestone for Ghost Recon, the teams at Ubisoft Bordeaux have developed Last Rites, a free new mission set in the world of Wildlands, where players will be pushed to their limits,” announced Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO and Co-founder.

“Built on community feedback, this experience is a great example of what happens when the creativity of our teams meets the passion of our players.”
In Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, your target is La Llorona, a moniker taken from a folktale about a woman who drowns her own children. Coming with the free mission are updates to the main game, including:
- Players can now play the full game in 60 FPS
- More customizable gameplay options
- More diverse team composition
- Change to time-of-day duration
- Return of Predator
Ghost Recon Future Soldier is free
During the 25th anniversary showcase, Ubisoft also announced that players can get Ghost Recon Future Soldier for free within the next week. Interested players can get the game before August 13 through Ubisoft Connect.
Future Soldier was released in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The online features for the game were discontinued in 2024. The focus was on a four-man ghost team called Predator, deployed in Nicaragua to disrupt a weapons trafficking network.
Ghost Recon insider program
One of the major announcements at the Ghost Recon 25th anniversary is the Insider Program that allows players to test upcoming games in the franchise. Interested fans can sign up through the registration portal. During registration, the player must complete the following three steps:
- Choose your platform (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Ubisoft Connect PC)
- Log in with your Ubisoft account
- Fill out a survey to complete the registration
Although the developers have not confirmed what’s coming next for the franchise, an Insider Program is an indirect indication that a new Ghost Recon game may be on the horizon.
