Netspeak Games, the studio behind Sunshine Days: Town Builder, has shrunk from 15 to “a lean 4-person team” in recent days. At its peak, the studio had up to 50 staff before shrinking to 15 and then 4.

“After over 5 years at Netspeak Games, it’s time to think about what’s next,” wrote Technical Director Timea Tabori on LinkedIn. “It’s been quite a ride: joining when the studio was around 20 people, growing to 50 at its peak, then navigating the changes required as we scaled back to 15 and eventually a lean 4-person team.”

Tabori helped to prototype and ship games while at Netspeak Games. What was not disclosed was the reason for the shrinking of staff at the studio. However, it is likely linked to the ongoing restructuring in the entire video game industry.

Netspeak Games is a remote-first game studio that is dedicated to making social games. The studio was founded in 2020 and has its office in London. It was founded on the ethos of combining world-class expertise with a commitment to kindness.

Sunshine Days

The studio’s first game was Sunshine Days: Town Builder, a village life game with a social twist. It is available in Early Access on Android and iOS.

“We all dream of a bright, beautiful world that includes, respects, and represents everyone,” read the official game blurb. “So we thought we’d build one!”

Players who sign up for pre-registration on Android or Apple phones using the official game link will be notified when the game is released. However, with the current shrinking of the studio, it is hard to tell if or when the game will be released.
