Resident Evil Requiem launched two months ago but has already cleared 7 million units. Capcom celebrated the milestone with a party where the game director, Koshi Nakanishi, was given two giant cakes representing the two protagonists in the game.

Since its release, Resident Evil Requiem has continued to set new records in the franchise, including being the highest-rated entry since Resident Evil 4 and selling 5 million copies in the first five days of launch. That record made it the fastest-selling entry in the franchise.

For context, the Resident Evil entry that previously held the record for the fastest to ship 7 million copies was RE4, and it took 12 months and 1 week to hit that milestone, according to series historian Alex Aniel.
There is still plenty more lined up for the game, including a content update scheduled for next month. It has been speculated that next month’s update will add “The Mercenaries” mode, following a tense new music discovery by dataminers.
“Going forward, Capcom plans to implement several measures, such as ongoing support and additional game content, so players can continue to enjoy the title longer,” Capcom said.
There is also a DLC in the works, although the release timeline sounds further off. Capcom games tend to have long commercial tails. Consequently, Requiem is likely to break more records by its first anniversary.

The best-selling RE game in the series to date is 2019’s RE2 with 16.8 million units. Next in line is RE7 with 16.4 million, while RE Village is third with 13.5 million.
The Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley was present at the celebration and hosted an “after-party bingo”, according to Nakanishi. Keighley’s presence has sparked rumors that Capcom may be planning a reveal at June’s Summer Game Fest.
