TBH: Task Bar Hero has 467,714 concurrent players on Steam at the time of writing, making it the second most-played game on the platform. On June 19, the game attracted over half a million players (546,130), setting a new concurrent player record.

Task Bar Hero was launched on May 27, 2026. It was developed and published by Nugem Studio in collaboration with Tesseract Studio. It steadily grew its audience from the paltry 7,776 concurrent players on launch day to over half a million players. The number of players has maintained an upward trajectory since launch.

“The ultimate tiny idle RPG,” is how the developer describes Task Bar hero in the official blurb. “Adorable pixel heroes are waiting to join your adventure — from your taskbar. Fight off the boredom of work and daily life with diverse classes, skills, items, and builds!”

TBH Steam player growth trend
This is a unique game where the heroes are so small that they fit into your taskbar. When your screen is on, the pixel heroes will automatically gather loot and grow stronger on their own.
The reception has been “Mixed”, although the developers have been actively releasing hotfixes to deal with some of the challenges faced by players to ensure a smooth playing experience. Although it is free-to-play, players can purchase bundles to upgrade their heroes.
Task Bar Hero server migration was a game-changer

One of the game-changing moments of Task Bar Hero happened on June 15 when the developer carried out a server migration to deal with “issues caused by server overload”. After the update, the developer issued three important statements on how players could be affected as follows:
After connecting to version 1.00.12, connecting again with an earlier version may result in item loss. Lost items cannot be recovered, so when accessing the game from a different location, please be sure to update (or verify file integrity) in advance before launching.
Due to the nature of our server provider, connection issues may occur in certain regions (such as Russia). We are currently investigating the cause and will continue to work on improvements.
During the update, items will be checked against Steam’s item registration data, and any item found to be abnormally generated or invalid will be deleted.
Initial Registration Wait: If a large number of users connect at once, it may cause server issues. Please note that a wait time of up to 1 hour may be assigned.

In addition to the server update, which now appears to accommodate more players, the developers also made updates to UI, bug fixes, and others, including strengthening the verification process for users of unauthorized programs.
“This is also the first time our development team has provided service to such a large number of users, so there are still many areas where we are inexperienced,” the development team wrote. “Even if issues arise after this update, we will do our best to address them as quickly as possible so that you can enjoy the game comfortably.”
