If you are one of the electric vehicle enthusiasts waiting for the launch of the AFEELA, you will be disappointed to learn that the vehicle’s development has been discontinued. Deliveries were previously scheduled to start in California later this year.

A March 25, 2026 announcement from Sony Honda Mobility Inc (SMH) disclosed that the development and launch of the first model AFEELA 1, and its second model of AFEELA vehicles, have been discontinued.

The decision was reached after discussions between the parent companies, Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Since its formation in September 2022, SMH has been focused on bringing its electric vehicle, AFEELA, to the market.
AFEELA was supposed to be a premium electric vehicle brand that would merge Sony’s software and entertainment technology with Honda’s automotive engineering masterpiece. It was expected to have over 40 sensors for autonomous driving and in-car entertainment.
“Since its establishment in September 2022, SHM has aimed to develop and sell high value-added mobility products and to provide mobility-related services by combining the technologies, expertise, and development capabilities of Sony and Honda,” read a message published on the company’s blog today.

“However, as a result of Honda’s reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy announced on March 12, 2026, SHM will not be able to utilize certain technologies and assets that were originally planned to be provided by Honda at the time of SHM’s initial business planning. In light of this change, SHM has determined that it does not have a viable path forward to bring the Models to market as originally planned.”
Following the cancellation, the two parent companies are reassessing their future business plans. Also, Californians who have paid the reservation fees will receive full refunds.
