How to start using Unity AI Beta

Unity AI guiding principles

It only takes three steps to start using Unity AI. However, bear in mind that this service costs $10 a month for Personal tier users. But there is also a free trial for those who want to play around to have a feel of the tool. If that is not a problem, follow the steps below to get started.

  • Install Unity 6+ from the release archive or directly in the Hub.
  • Install the Assistant packages by clicking on the AI button in the Editor. If you are having difficulty finding the button, follow the instructions in this guide.
  • Link your project to Unity Cloud to start building games with prompts.

In a separate message that was posted on the company’s discussion board, the team provided more insights on Unity AI.

The free trial grants you 1,000 credits that must be used up within 14 days, or they are lost. Subsequently, you pay $10 for 1,000 credits per month. Pro, Enterprise, or Industry users will automatically gain these features and credits.

As expected, there were lots of pushbacks in the comment section. A comment from @Mosieur_Costard read, “@unity are you stealing the data of the game dev using your software to train this?”

To that question, Unity replied, “By default, user data is not used to train AI models. You can opt-in to share data via the Dashboard”.
