Earlier this week, Ubisoft made sweeping changes, including the closure of two studios and cutting roles from its Barcelona team. Sources close to the development of the next Ghost Recon game, dubbed Project OVR, have alleged that all is not well.

Recent management changes implemented by Ubisoft have left many of the developers working on the next Ghost Recon game “bracing for impact”, according to a report by Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw.

In a memo shared with Insider Gaming, it was alleged that Project OVR failed to meet internal Alpha objectives. Consequently, Ubisoft brought in Bruno Galet as senior producer for the upcoming game.

Also drafted into the project are the VP of the Global Creative Office, Julien Sansalone, and the VP of Production, Jean-Baptiste Duval. The duo is expected to be “more present on a day-to-day basis”, including being on the work floor. Insider Gaming reached out to Ubisoft on the matter but got no response.

Why Ghost Recon developers are worried

According to the exclusive report, those who spoke under the condition of anonymity said Ghost Recon development suffered “unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management”.

During the internal review, it was claimed that the proposed alternative production plans were rejected by the Ubisoft HQ team. Some of the team members believe the directors are doing what they want instead of listening to feedback from HQ.

The memo hinted that Ubisoft considers the success of the next Ghost Recon a high priority. Nevertheless, developers have found the executive changes concerning and are unsure of what comes next, especially within the Paris studio.

There are internal rumors that the game may be overhauled or completely canceled and resources moved to a different project if things don’t improve. Many staff members within the studio are bracing for more layoffs in the near future.
