They say one successful act in any field inspires another. That appears to be the case with live adaptation of video games which recently recorded huge successes. The latest video game that will get a live adaptation is Just Cause.

Just Cause Is Getting A Live Action Adaptation Almost 2 Decades After Initial Release

First released on PlayStation 2 in 2006, Just Cause is an ambitious open-world game that boasts of large explorable environments, one of the largest in a video game at that time. The lead character Rico Rodriguez won himself into the hearts of players with his acrobatic movements; jetpack, grappling hook, wingsuit, and portable rocket thrusters—among others.

Just Cause later got a sequel in 2010 and a third entry in the franchise in 2015. The last installment in the series is Just Cause 4 which was released in 2018. Sadly, it was also the worst received in the series. On Metacritic, it had an average score of 68.

According to Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, the live adaptation of Just Cause will be produced by Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for Universal. It will be directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, the director behind Blue Beetle movie.

These producers have previously worked on video game adaptations before, precisely Sonic the Hedgehog and Tomb Raider titles. The license for the movie adaptation has switched hands over the year before finally falling to Universal Pictures.

Will Just Cause add to the growing list of video game adaptations ruling the box office?

Universal Pictures literally jumped at the chance to bring the video game franchise to cinema screens. This is probably because video game adaptations are viewed as the new goldmine that will usurp the superhero genre at the box office.

Last year, Universal smiled to the bank after the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s which grossed $1.4 billion and $290 million respectively at the global box office. One of the questions on the minds of many is the right actor to play the role of Rico Rodriguez.

No doubt, there are tons of actors who have the charisma and experience to bring Just Cause to life. However, Grant Taylor-Hill of Insider-Gaming suggested Chris Pratt and we could not agree more. His roles in The Tomorrow War and Guardians of the Galaxy have uncanny semblance with what would be required from the actor that eventually casts for Just Cause.
