Resident Evil Requiem is the best-rated main entry in the series since Resident Evil 4. It also made it to the top of the list of games with the best user score on Metacritic. Requiem also marks 30 years of the franchise, which has expanded from games to live-action adaptations and animations.

It was developed using the RE Engine, Capcom’s proprietary game engine, which the company said allowed them “to deliver visuals in photorealistic detail, including the character’s skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair, as well as the translucency of light”.

“The title offers a new game experience for a broad fanbase through multiple difficulty settings that accommodate everyone from newcomers to experienced players, as well as allowing players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real-time to suit each player’s individual play styles,” Capcom explained.

“Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”

By selling 5 million copies in 5 days, Resident Evil Requiem has become the fastest-selling entry in the series. The previous record was held by Resident Evil 6, which sold 4.5 million copies in the first week. Resident Evil 4 now sits in third position for shipping 3 million copies in the first week.
