An internal memo shared to staff during a meeting chaired by the new Assassin’s Creed leadership confirmed that Clint Hocking, the creative director of an upcoming Assassin’s Creed game codename Hexe, has left Ubisoft.

The departure will not affect the development of Hexe, according to Ubisoft. The new head of content, Jean Guesdon, will take over the project as creative director. The veteran previously directed Black Flag and Origins.

A spokesperson from the company sent the following message to VGC: “We sincerely thank [Clint] for his vision, creative contributions, and dedication over the years, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter.”
“Development on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe continues with a seasoned team. The game will deliver something distinctive within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. We look forward to sharing more information in the future.”
Assassin’s Creed Hexe was announced in 2022 and is expected to be “a different experience” compared to previous entries in the franchise. The upcoming entry is expected to focus on horror elements.

The last time we heard about Hexe, it was that the same minds behind the Origins, Valhalla, and Mirage would handle the scriptwriting. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently confirmed that the company was working on multiple Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry games.
“We have a solid pipeline underway across Vantage Studios,” Guillemot said. “Under the Assassin’s Creed brand, several titles are in development, spanning both single-player and multiplayer experiences, with the ambition to further grow a community that exceeded 30 million players last year.”
